Welcome to Montclair Kindred

We’re a community book club centered on the voices and experiences of Black women. Based in Montclair, New Jersey, we also see ourselves as part of a broader literary community committed to reading, celebrating, and engaging with the work of Black authors.

Our reading selections are rooted primarily in fiction, a genre we love for its ability to hold complexity, imagination, and emotional truth. From time to time, we may also explore other forms of writing that enrich our collective conversations.

To make space for both local connection and wider participation, we host in-person gatherings in Montclair as well as virtual book club discussions.

All who enter with care are welcome.
