Montclair Kindred envisions a community where reading is both a shared pleasure and a meaningful practice of community literacy. We believe literacy is a form of rest as well as resistance, rooted in the knowledge that access to reading has long been denied, fought for, and paid for by our ancestors.
By centering Black women’s voices, we honor these legacies with each page read and each conversation held, while creating welcoming spaces, both in person and virtual, where thoughtful dialogue, reflection, and connection can flourish.
